Gigli#
I told everyone that I could that the movie "Gigli" was going to suck like crazy, and NO ONE was going to go see it. This was even before any previews for the movie were available.

Was I right?

'I was shocked," says "Good Morning America'''s Joel Siegel.

"It's horrible," moans Roger Friedman of Foxnews.com. "The worst movie ever made."

Bush and Magoo#
A Republican strategist has dubbed the timely deaths of Saddam’s sons as “Bush’s Magoo moment” comparing Bush to the hapless cartoon figure Mr. Magoo who stumbles unaware through mishap after mishap but somehow manages to emerge unscathed.

Glad to know that even the republicans know that our country is being run by a hapless fool.

MSXML XML DOM Reference#
It was a pain in the butt trying to find this. Ok, well it wasn't THAT hard, but I didn't expect it to be so buried on the MSDN site, and of course their search features totally suck.

Here is the MSXML XML DOM Reference page from MSDN.

TennisCharter.com Goes Live#
Last night I finished up my last bit of testing, and put up the installs on the website.

The purchase pages are linked up and ready to go. So now I can take a long deserved break right? Wrong!! I have to spend the rest of the weekend working on a project (a flash game) for a client of mine.

Those bills arn't going to pay themselves!

CC Processing#
I have been looking into more options for online CC processing. I am using www.v-share.com for this release of Tennis Charter, because it allows me to do real-time issuing of unlock codes. Pretty nice, and it isn't very expensive.

In the future, I am looking toward other things, like maybe using .netCharge, which is a .net component that you use to interface with various processors/gateways. For the money, ($125), I'm not sure it is really worth it. It's features are: Seamless Integration (ok so I am saved a few lines of code... only a few), Common Interface (ok, you can switch processors without changing code.. some value here), Logging (text logs.. good again), AVS Support (this is really provided by the processor), Card Verification Code (again, just passing data to the processors), Transaction Types (real-time, authorization, processing, void, refund... ok), Test mode, Timeouts, Returns and Error codes, Prevalidation, Database Logging (very cool, it encrypts the data and puts it in a SQL Server... pretty cool), etc..

Ok, it is pretty cool. But lots of these features are lost of people that arn't running a "WebStore".

One of the processors it works with is http://www.authorizenet.com which is one of the few companies to describe (technically) how their stuff works. Most sites describe it like "Customer enters credit card information. Credit card information is sent to our servers" blah blah blah.

If you are lost, this diagram might help explain it.

Web Traffic Report#
I have been using Weblog Expert Lite on my server. It's pretty nice, but it doesn't know that "aspx" is a "page" and so some of the stats arn't as interesting as they could be. I might buy the full version for 79 bucks or something, but there are some free alternatives such as http://awstats.sourceforge.net and http://www.analog.cx. Analog can work with this thing called Report Magic to make some nice reports, and it's written in C, while AWStats is done in Perl. I don't know if I want to install the Perl runtime on my machine.

How fast can an old man with $500 Million backpedal?#
About this fast.

The Bush team really pisses me off. They are such fucking liars. I'm not even talking about the Iraq stuff, just about everything in general.

If you don't find any weapons, don't say that the war had nothing to do with WMD, just say that you had intelligence that showed that they did have weapons, and you had to act on that intelligence!!! Fucking tell the truth!

Don't tell the American people that the tax cuts are a "Jobs and Growth" package. That is the biggest load of crap. Just say "Hey, we pay way to much in taxes. Just because we were successful in life doesn't mean we should be penalized for it when it comes to taxes!" I'd say you are an asshole for saying that, but at least I would have to believe that you were telling the truth.

What the fuck is wrong with this country?

I really really don't like where we are going with this administration. If the economy were better, I wouldn't complain so much, but it makes me sick to think about GWB being president. The country has hundreds of thousands of extremely smart and hard working republicans. How the hell did Bush come to lead the party?? I will be saying the same thing in 4 yrs if Hillary decides to run.... oh god, please don't do that to me.

Riddle for Earthlink: When is "Static" not really "Static"?#
Answer: When I'm paying an extra 15 bucks a month for static, thats when.

Earthlink gives out your static IP through their DHCP servers, so what happens when we have storm and the power flickers? I lose the DSL for a minute, and when I reconnect, it still thinks that my old connection is running, so it doesn't give me my static IP! This really pisses me off.

If someone is logging in with my username and password, then just drop the connection to my ip address if they think that it is still live, and give my MY ip address, dump assholes.

Code Editors Narrowed Down... For Now I Guess#
I downloaded, and have started messing around with vim, jEdit, and AnyEdit.

I don't know about VIM, but it looks like jEdit might be able to do what I am looking for via plugins, mainly "jBrowse" and "CodeAid". I believe these are built to work with java source code files, but if the plugins are open source, I could change them to do what I want.

AnyEdit talks about having built in support for this kind of stuff via external config files, but there are none for download, as it looks like the product is still in beta.

CASL Issues Resolved (For Now)#
It looks like I have resolved my issues with CASL, at least for now.

I have no idea why I was getting those fatal errors, but it turns out that the grid overflows only on OS 3.0.X devices. OS 3.1.X will work, but won't show the correct ellipse symbol (...). I couldn't find an OS 3.2 ROM, but on OS 3.3.X, it works fine.

Fighting With CASL#
I thought last night was going to be a quick final build of the programs, and then I would spend most time double checking that the installs all worked, but it turned out to be a night of debugging hell. All kinds of errors when trying to run some builds on my Palm OS 3 device or emulator. But I only get these errors when I change something in the form editor, nothing in my code. Nothing in my code references anything that would cause these errors, meaning... if all you are doing is asking for the .display of an object, and setting the .display, then it doesn't really matter if that object is a textbox or a label, but for some reason, when I get to some magical limit, if I change another label to a textbox then all goes to hell.

This is all really stemming from the grid bug that I am again going to try to get an answer on.

I posted on the CASL Board 3 times (or more) about this grid bug, posts here, here, and here.

I can't believe that this isn't a "big" issue for CASL developers, so I guess that means that either 1) no one is testing their apps on Palm OS3 devices, or they are testing their apps without long enough strings to see the problem, or 2) There is something about my setup that is causing this problem, or 3) When people get this problem, they do what I did, which is to replace the labels with a textbox, but this is not a good option because the textboxes will wrap, even if its only 1 line, and I can't even run my program after switching to textboxes now for some reason that I have no way of knowing.

I uploaded another image of the bug to go along with my existing images here, here, and here, where the last of the 3 is running on OS4, so it looks fine, while the first 2 are on OS3.

I'm even posting up a sample project to cause this error, to see if I can get ANYONE to recreate the problem.

Cleaner Calling of Stored Procedures#
SPInfoke is a tool that allows you to call SPs as static methods in a .NET class. They also offer a SP generator called the StoredProcBuilder.
